San Gimignano

Friday, we went by train to Florence and then took a bus to San Gimignano with a layover in Poggibonsi. San Gimignano is known for it's 14 remaining Etruscan towers that stand above the city. When we first arrived in San Gimignano around 11am, it was completely covered in fog and we could  not see a thing. We started to walk around the town and were kind of bummed out that the fog was so dense. By noon, the fog was slowly starting to lift. By this point we were on top of one of the smaller towers and were able to wait and watch as the fog lifted completely, revealing a sunny day and a great view of the towers. We found a paper store that we had to stop in. Most of us ending up buying a sketchbook. I bought one that has a uniquely designed hardcover and it has really nice paper with lighter trace type paper covering each piece. I am really excited about it and am going to use it to put together all of my sketches, watercolors, tickets, and postcards inside. We figured out that the meat shops can make you fresh paninis so we got some to take on a picnic. My panini had salami, cheese, and pesto on it. It was really good and fresh tasting. We sat in the sun on some steps and had lunch. I also paid 50 cents to use a restroom that will give me nightmares for at least a week. I put the coin in and pressed a button that opened up this door so I stepped inside and it quickly shut behind me. There were loud machine noises and no windows. It was the scariest, most bizarre thing. We came back to the study center in time for dinner and we even had chicken for dinner!

San Gimignano is also known for Wild Boar
